Arts in Arts – the client requested a studio arts building at the American University of Sharjah’s campus. As an interplay between stereotomic and tectonic elements the project proposes a light weight canopy structure and a massive ground plane, both connect the building to the existing campus. The canopy structure folds on the south-east facade to diffuse direct sunlight and in several interior areas folds to bridge between the ground and canopy planes; those structures are used as green walls. The ground plane consists of barrel vaults and sunken courtyards as part of an interior regionalism.
